Fuel Management Electronics

HKS F-CON V Pro Air Fuel Knock Amp The HKS A/F knock monitor is an extremely valuble addition to any vehicle that has undergone extensive modifications. Indeed, for those which are likely to use the HKS F-Con Pro ECU then it's use is virtually essential. The unit consists of a visual head unit which shows both knock and air/fuel ratio data. A remote mounted separate signal amplifier is used to help keep the size of the head unit as compact as possible. The amp can be mounted anywhere in the vehicle out of sight. The knock (detonation) side of the unit picks up from the original sensor/s mounted to the vehicle. The sensitivity of original equipment sensors can vary from car to car and thus it is the tuners decision to decide whether they are accurate enough for the purpose of monitoring or not. The air/fuel ratio side requires the use of an extremely sensitive wide-band Lambda sensor. HKS reccomend the Japanese NTK sensor as it is one of the most accurate available. Unfortunately these sensors are very expensive but at the moment we have not come accross an equivalent alternative and as air/fuel ratio monitoring is taken very seriously we have no option but to continue with the NTK setup. The unit is extremely useful when used in conjunction with any F-Con Pro setup as not only is the factory knock detection system rendered inoperable but the F-Con Pro can also use the air/fuel ratio data supplied by the HKS knock monitor to self-learn and therefore map the fuel curve. This can save huge amounts of expensive mapping time and will go some way to offsetting the cost of the knock monitor and wide-band NTK sensor.
